Don’t get me wrong here, I love the Foo Fighters, I really do. “The Colour and the Shape” is one of my all time favorite albums, and I’m a huge fan of Grohl’s work, be it in the kit with Nirvana, QOTSA and Them Crooked Vultures or playing frontman in the FF, but recently it’s like the band is simply making fun of itself, a shadow of its former glorious rocking self. I can perfectly understand why the band would want to release a greatest hits record. It’s perfectly justifiable, after all, considering their extensively popular catalog and long series of great singles, but what I can’t understand is why did Dave and co. had to go round writing filler songs of execrable nature.
I didn’t like Wheels at all, a new song off Foo Fighters’ upcoming Greatest Hits record, when it first leaked a few weeks ago, but it was somewhat listenable. It stank of mediocrity, but I couldn’t say it made my ears bleed. It’s not the best I can say for the latest new FF song, titled “Word Forward“, a simply horrid, horrid song. There’s absolutely no sign of the FF’s intense emotion they used to put in songs like Everlong or All My Life, and it all sounds so fake. Hey, Dave, did you at least think twice before putting this on a Foo Fighters album? You can listen to the song (at your expense…) via the YouTube stream bellow. Thoughts?
Foo Fighters’ Greatest Hits will be out on November 3rd.
