The MuchMusic Video Awards were a bit surprising. The big people were there but pop-punk band Billy Talent were the big winners and they had three awards for best video and best rock video for Fallen Leaves, which they also performed on the live show, and the people’s choice award for favourite Canadian group.
Also taking home two awards last night was [tag]Avril Lavigne[/tag] whose song, Girlfriend, picked up best international video by a Canadian and the people’s choice award for favourite Canadian artist. She was also proud and was almost crying.
“Honestly, this is the best,” said Billy Talent frontman Ben Kowalewicz of the people’s choice honour. “This is the first time we were nominated for this (award).” They are also modest and the future is sparkling for them.
Other performers last night included Hilary Duff — who won the people’s choice award for favourite international artist — Alexisonfire, Maroon 5, and The Used, but it was Ottawa-based Palestinian rapper Belly who delivered the standout live performance with Pressure, featuring special guest Ginuwine, dancing girls, two violin players and a gospel choir. The whole set was amazing and the awards itselves were also great. The fact that true music is appreciated gives hope to the instable future of rock.
