Mastodon‘s new album, “Crack The Skye“, is just a few couple of week away, but, even so, anticipation grows ever unbearable, especially with the annoyingly awesome teasers the band’s promo company do. Above is pictured the official art work for Crack The Skye, definitely too abstract and packed with symbolism for all of us to fully comprehend. An impaled bear walking over the globe, two twin Tsar genies (two Rasputins, more likely), levitating a globe in their right hand, while a trippy black hole lies in the center. Yeah, like I said.
The cover isn’t that importantly though (although Mastodon have some of the most awesome art I’ve seen. Most self-respecting metal bands do), the music is, and boy does their new single rock. With a new concept album right around the corner, I still can’t help wondering what should I expect from it. “Divinations,” the first single off the album, the tip of the iceberg if you will, is an awesome metal anthem, although strangely different from their pass stuff. The opening riff is of somewhat oriental influence, the drumming is, as always, steady and miraculously upbeat, while the chorus assures the song won’t leave anyone’s memory too soon. Awesomeness ETA: Crack The Skye is out March 24th.
