This is truly what you would call a supergroup – legendary Max Cavalera, bassist/singer Troy Sanders of Mastodon, Dilinger vocalist Greg Puciato and former Mars Volta stickman Dave Eilich have joined forces in what is a yet-to-be-named musical project. They’ve also announced working together with Josh Wilbur, known for his production work on Lamb of God’s 2009 effort “Wrath.”
“It’s going to be cool, we just don’t have a name yet, the name is a pain in the a– to find but the music is great,” Cavalera said on his way to the studio. “We have been working on this for two years!”
The frontman also added:
“Greg approached me kinda like how Alex [Newport] approached me to do Nailbomb in that he was really, really trying to get me to do this project. I told him already I was pretty busy doing Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy [and] I was not really looking for an extra thing, but he was pretty insistent and then I just gave up and was like ‘Let’s f–king do this!'”
So will this put a halt to their current projects? We still don’t know, and probably, they’re just trying to get the feel of it before they decide to make something really big happen. But the mix of styles is definitely something I, and probably every metal fan out there wants to hear.
“We jammed a couple of times and the last jam we did it sounded killer; the songs are really powerful real heavy. It’s hard to describe but I think the coolest thing about this project is that all three of us are going to sing on every song.”
