Photo by GR58 Today is a special day for all Americans. Today marks the day the US conquered oppression and embraced liberty; let’s hope we can do it again… Anyway we’ve said it before, this is not a place for politics, such trivialities can’t be found here. But considering today’s a day like no other, we’ve decided to celebrate Independence Day as best as we can: through music. With this in mid we’ve devised a…
Should your favorite band call it quits sooner ?
Photo by flannelass I was going over a few of my favorite websites on the net, just earlier, when I cam across an interesting post down at the Guardian music blog, that really caught my attention and made me reflect a bit. The article is centered around the idea according to which bands should disband as soon as they’re successful. Ben Myers, the journalist who wrote the article, feels that there’s a certain point in…

After they’ve released a more or less successful [tag]Prince[/tag] cover compilation record, in the form of Controversy, a while ago, the fine folks from Rapster are back with yet another cover song compilation LP, this time featuring artists influenced by the great [tag]David Bowie[/tag]. Matthew Dear, Carl Craig, Kelley Polar, Au Revoir Simone, Joakim, and the Thing are just a few artists who cover the Thin White Duke on “Life Beyond Mars: Bowie Covered”. The…

The new mixtape will feature a lot of new, unreleased songs by the duo, that’s sure to make this summer a lot more interesting, giving “kids with new systems in their car something to ride to.. and all the girls at the beach something to dance too” (an…
Interview: Brooke Fraser
So some of you may not have heard of the name Brooke Fraser. Hailing from New Zealand, this humble and lovely songbird has already made quite a name for herself in the Pacific region. The album Albertine was released in the U.S not too long ago, and she’s currently on tour. I managed to speak to Brooke over the phone while she was preparing dinner for some friends to just have a chat about her…
New Lil Wayne video: ‘Lollipop’ (live at Jimmy Kimmel)
[tag]Lil Wayne[/tag] totally blew everybody over with his latest, recent studio effort “Tha Carter III,” the last album in the Carter trilogy and, most of all, what’s considered by most critiques the best rap album of 2008, so far. With a cover like this, you can’t really go anywhere but up. Anyway Lil Wayne paid a quick visit to Jimmy Kimmel a few nights ago, where he played a dazzling performance of Lollipop, one of…
Two new Beck songs: stream ‘Orphans’ and ‘Gamma Ray’
[tag]Beck[/tag] and his upcoming new album, “Modern Guilt,” is just a few weeks days away from its release date, and of course the teasers and leaks couldn’t stop either. This time, after Beck previously previewed the first single from the new album, the psychedelic “Chemtrails”, the ’60s revivalist artist, much to the delight of his dedicated fans, has just streamed another two tracks from Modern Guilt. First the electro-gaze infused, Beach Boys harmony packed “Orphans,”…
Download: Diplo – ‘Brew Barrymore’
Here’s a treat for the blog’s electro fans, seeing as we haven’t posted anything about one of my favorite Dj’s, [tag]Diplo[/tag], for a while. Last weekend he went by The Roots picnic, somewhere in Philly, where among other massive tunes, he mixed in a new track, punned over Ronnie Foster’s 1972 classic Mystic Brew, thoughtfully named “Brew Barrymore.” Ronnie’s soulful, jazzy sound hasn’t faded one bit in Diplo’re remix, seeing how the sexy, funky organs…
Sharon from Within Temptation records with Armin van Buuren
Both Within Temptation and Armin van Buuren are from the Netherlands; but that’s where the similarities end. The band shows a brilliant metal/goth spirit, being probably the best artist of the genre while Armin is considered by most to be the best DJ in the whole world. But still, it’s a pretty large bridge to cross. While I have to say the song is a great trance one, it’s nowhere near anything WT’s greatest work….
