Like every March, hundreds of bands are set to perform in Austin,TX’s SXSW art fest, battling for some attention and maybe a label contract. Most of the bands are great, some are more awesome, some are lameass, doesn’t matter really. We all get a kick of it. Bellow you can check out the full list of the initial line-up, which will be constantly updated with new names, until it hits a few hundred. To save…
New Franz Ferdinand video: ‘Ulysses’
“Common let’s get hiiiiiiiiigh,” goes Franz Ferdiand’s Alex Kapranos as their latest single, Ulysses, unfolds. As fun as the actual track may be, the video is definitely a spectacle for both ears and eyes, featuring the band sharply dressed, jumping around indoors, streets and a desert (?? space cookies??). Off the band’s latest upcoming studio effort, “Tonight: Franz Ferdinand”, out January 27th.
Hot Streaming: Bon Iver – Blood Bank EP (limited)
Bon Iver’s “For Emma, Forever Ago” ranked #3 on our ZME Top 50 of 2008, making it, for us at least, one of the best albums of year and one of the best debuts in years. Although “Blood Bank,” the latest material from Justin, is just a short, four track EP, it’s interesting to see if he can produce music of the same quality, without being confined to an isolated Wisconsin mountain cabin. For those…
New Bodies of Water video: ‘Under the Pines’
Think of The Village, only a lot more disturbing and less lame, and you can make an idea of Bodies of Water’s new awesome video for “Under the Pines,” off their last year summer release, “A Certain Feeling.” The video’s plot is quite interesting, although ringing of clichés, but that’s what makes it so fun, because it’s so intentionally predictable, I guess. A man going hunting in the woods, shoots a dog. While gutting it,…
Led Zeppelin carry on…without R. Plant [?]
I may piss some people off with this post, but this sounds pretty…notable, to say. We’ve written I think douzens of posts about the alleged Led reunion, speculating rumors and officials press releases alike, but we’ve still yet to see any palpable. Today, Jimmy Page’s manager confirmed that the band is set to go on tour and also intend to record a new record, all without Robert Plant. The band last played together at last…
Download: Eminem – ‘Crack a Bottle’ (feat. 50 Cent + Dr. Dre)
Yup, here’s another Eminem leak from his upcoming new album “Relapse”, going by the name of ‘Crack a Bottle.’ This time, however, Slim is joined by Fithy’ and the good Dr. Dre on rap duties, as a catchy, almost hypnotizing bass background rolls in and loops and loops. Surprisingly or not, it’s not at all boring, quite interesting. Dr. Dre’s production work shine’s through out the track, though, kinda saving Eminem’s juvenile Solja Boy lyrics…
R.I.P Ron Asheton (Stooges guitarist)
Sad news for all rock’n’roll fans around the world. Ron Asheton, one of the original founding fathers and guitarist/bassist of the highly influential The Stooges, was found earlier today in his home dead. He was 60. Apparently, however, he was already dead for a few days now, when he was found by the police, after his assistant called them since Ron hadn’t returned her calls. His guitar work with The Stooges went on to influence…
New Bruce Springsteen video: ‘Life Itself’
With only a few weeks before the new Bruce Springsteen album, “Working on a Dream,” comes out, spirits are getting pretty restless. Anxious, if you will. The whole tension has been building up since the first video, Lucky Day, popped out – a motivation anthem, packed with hope and messages of change. Bruce’s latest video, however, for the “Life Itself” is quite different, although the setting is kinda the same – Bruce and the guys,…
Radiohead recruits Kraftwerk for a new 2009 tour
What’s probably the most influential electronic music band in the world, Kraftwerk, will surprisingly tour with Radiohead, as gig openers, for their upcoming 2009 trek. Quite an end to German-English rivalry. Although, Kraftwerk is on board only for a hanful of shows, Latin American fans will be delighted to see the two giants on tour, starting March 15-16, when they’ll kick it off in Mexico City, before calling it quits on April 25-26 in Wolfsburg,…
Download: Arcade Fire – ‘Burning Bridges’
Arcade Fire has always sorta had a shroud of mystery around it, maybe because of the band’s more or less unique approach to music or maybe just because … it’s just something special. For the fans and curious peeks alike, the band will soon release a DVD, titled Miroir Noir, comprised of a documentary relating the making of AF’s most recent album “Neon Bible”, as well as various live performances from the tour. Through out…
