Since their third studio effort It’s Blitz (2009), gutsy New York threesome Yeah Yeah Yeahs have remained all-too-quiet on the music scene. The four-year silence was broken, however, when the group announced the drop date of its fourth album, dubbed Mosquito (yes, for the insect), two weeks ago on their site. The YYYs have also pledged to play a slough of new dates, including the two weekends of Coachella.
When asked about the record, which has been in-the-works since 2010, Karen O herself stated, “so much feeling went into this record, it was the rope ladder thrown down into the ditch for us to climb up and dust ourselves off. I hope others can climb up it too; we’re excited to share the good vibes.” Hopefully, the record, which O claims is “moodier” and “more tripped-out” than any other YYY project, will prove the fans who have already reacted negatively to its album artwork wrong.
Written in the group’s basement studio in Manhattan, recorded at Sonic Ranch in Tornilla, Texas, and featuring one track with LCD Soundsystem‘s James Murphy, the album, which is said to be more “playful” and lo-fi oriented, is set to be released on April 16.
The tour dates are as follows:
