This is getting preposterous. A few days after we talk about the first confirmed track off the soundtrack for the upcoming Twilight movie, “New Moon,” by Death Cab for Cutie, I’m left to find out that one of the most consistent bands of the year, Grizzly Bear, has been also confirmed as part of the musical score. So far, the New Moon soundtrack features music by artists of the likes of Death Cab for Cutie, Grizzly Bear, Thom Yorke, Bon Iver and The Killers, with the full list to be announced tomorrow, according to Alexandra Patsavas, the New Moon music supervisor. From the so far confirmed artists, I’m willing to bet the rest of the list will be in the same indie all star league, which is pretty damn curious, considering last year’s Twilight soundtrack was mostly comprised of alt rock and grungy/hard rock (Muse, Linkin Park, Paramore, Collective Soul).
“This is a much more somber movie than Twilight. There is a lot of love lost, so the artists that are going to make up the soundtrack reflect that longing– a lot of acoustic instruments, a lot of a cappella singing. This soundtrack definitely feels a bit more indie than the last one,” goes on Patsavas, explaining the differences in musical approach.
Like I said, preposterous…
