The SXSW week almost always coincides with modest releases, but this year it can’t get any better. The highlight of the week is without a doubt Drive-by Truckers’ highly anticipated eight studio effort “The Big To-Do“, which according to Patterson Hood is “very much a rock album. Very melodic and more rocking than anything since disc 2 of Southern Rock Opera.” Should be very interesting, to say the least.
The Emmett Malloy directed rockumentary “Under Great Northern Lights“, which documents White Stripes’ summer 2007 tour across Canada and contains live concert and off-stage footage. Being a film and live album, the DVD should prove to be a must have for any WS fan. The album part of the DVD is streaming for free here.
Other great records worth buying this week include “Midnight Souvenirs” by Peter Wolf, “Don’t Hurry for Heaven” by Davon Sproule and, of course, “In The Dark” by The Whigs.
What records are you looking forward to this week or the week after?
