Hot on the heels of their previous critically acclaimed 2009 The Hazards of Love, the Portland five piece folk outfit is prepping for the release of a new album, recently titled The King is Dead. The upcoming 10 track LP is set to roll out at the beginning of 2011, and will allegedly feature R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck on three songs. Colin Meloy, the band’s frontman, actually stated that the R.E.M. feel will be present…
Bands To Watch – Let’s Buy Happiness
Margot and The Nuclear So and So live @ The Crowbar (Tampa, FL)
With a new album entitled Buzzards, Margot and the Nuclear So and So are quite busy, but that didn’t stop them from putting on an amazing show Friday night at the Crowbar in Tampa Florida. With three opening acts, the crowd was raring to go when Margot and the Nuclear So and So finally graced the stage. The show got off to a great start. Local band the Sleepy Vikings opened and got the crowd…
Listen: The Temper Trap – ‘Fools’ (Peter, Bjorn and John remix)
If you enjoyed the Melbourne quartet’s 2009 debut, then the upcoming remixed version of “Conditions” will definitely light your day. Featuring rehashes by the likes of Fool’s Gold, Rusko, Penguin Prison, Alan Wilkis or Peter, Bjorn & John, “Conditions Remixed” comes in as fresh and dazzling, as The Temper Trap’s debut. Below you can stream PB&J’s version of Fools – a minimalist, lightweight rendition that excellently blends with the band’s original harmonies.
New Best Coast video – ‘Boyfriend’
Best Coast is definitely shaping up as this year’s best new band, marveling pair upon pair of ears with their stunning debut. One of “Crazy for You”‘s gems, the sparkling ’60s vibe revamp “Boyfriend” just got its official video up recently. Directed by Taylor Cohen, the video makes up for a sweet capture of a typical Mexican wedding, complete with the retro vibe. Crazy for You is out now on Mexican Summer.
[VIDEO] Warpaint – ‘Undertow’
Warpaint’s Undertow has been haunting me for a few weeks now, slowly making its way on the top of my playlist, and today I couldn’t be more thrilled to hear the band released an official video for their debut’s first single. The video is pretty simple, but pretty much follows and feels what the song would look like if sound would’ve been transposed into visuals – scenes of reminiscences and passionate memories. As a fun…
New Iron & Wine album – Kiss Each Other Clean
It’s been almost three years since we’ve heard new material from Sam Beam’s alt-folk project, Iron & Wine, but according to a recent press release that found its way to our inbox, a new album is on the horizon. Slated for a 2011 release, the follow-up to 2007’s extraordinarily well received “The Shepard’s Dog” will be titled Kiss Each Other Clean, with release efforts being handled by the band’s new label Warner Bros. Records in…
Arcade Fire: ‘The Suburbs’
Album name: The Suburbs Artist name: Arcade Fire Genre: Indie Rock Released: August 2, 2010 Label: Merge/Mercury ZME Rating: 9/10 Website: arcadefire.com A tremendous amount of hype has surrounded Arcade Fire since they released their self-titled EP back in 2004. By fusing bits of the Polyphonic Spree and Talking Heads and interweaving the more jaunty songs from Pavement’s back collection, Arcade Fire has been able to create a rather interesting, albeit exciting sound that jumps…
Chromatics – ‘Circled Sun’
I’ve praised Chromatics on various occasions so far, and as always they’ve given me another occasion to do so. Their label, Italians Do It Better are issuing an expanded/ analog remastered deluxe editions of Chromatics‘ 2006 In the City 12″, as well as my personal favorite, the 2007 full length Night Drive. According to the IDIB blog, each re-issue will feature 5 brand new tracks, one of which is the slow-dance-pop jam “Circled Sun”, which…
Kanye West vs Bon Iver – ‘Lost in The World’
I never thought Kanye West and Bon Iver can be pronounced together in a sentence, let alone a song. Seems like discrepancies and unlikely collaborations make up for a unexpectedly solid track – Lost in The World, a Kanye West production that heavily samples Justin Vernon’s 2008 eery autotune Woods. Yeah, you probably expected something like Justin spitting rhymes in the mic side by side with Kanye, but aside from it looking extremely awkward, that…
