Yeah Yeah Yeahs preping new record

The latest news post from the [tag]Yeah Yeah Yeahs[/tag]’ brand new, shiny, website reads  “HAPPPYYY FREAKIN NEW YYYEAR,” in the titled and we can’t help but wonder wtf? I mean new year’s been 2 and a half weeks ago, but I guess the fact the band’s been a bit in isolation, recording and writing their new album, does both excuse themselves for the late greeting and deeply makes us happy. Who doesn’t love new music?…

The Whigs: single stream and album art

Athens, Georgia garage rock band The Whigs, came under my radar 1 year ago, when the southern duo, back then a trio, were featured on Rolling Stone as “possibly the best unsigned band in America.” A righteous claim I might add, considering they’re surprisingly talented, mixing a blend of late 60’s garage rock and contemporary indie music. Time passed and they eventually got signed by ATO Records, that helped re-release their initial interdependently recorded debut…

Art Brut tours ’08

[tag]Art Brut[/tag] and its sophomore release, It’s A Bit Complicated, have certainly been one  of my favorites this year, but I was really blown away when I started watching their live gigs on the telly and on the web. I myself haven’t ever attended in person one of their live shows, but apparently the band are making it possible for me to finally see them in the flesh, as they’ve announced the venues and dates…

New Fiery Furnaces video: ‘Navy Nurse’

A while back, we released the “Ex-guru” track, signer by the brother-sister act [tag]Fiery Furnaces[/tag], our for download. We told you that “the track opens up with a aggressive drum barrage and Jimmy Page like riffage, but which is soon followed by an assembly of flout, keys, and percussions, which together with Eleanor Friedberge’s dynamic and emotional vocals make it a must listen.” Our opinion remains the same, with a addition: their latest album Widow…

The Vandelles: the Noir Rock revivalists

The product of a merger between two local New York bands, The Mercenary Gang and Del Black Aloha, The Vandelles have made a name for themselves, thanks to their experimental distortions and harmonies, as Noir Rock’s new generation spearhead. Recently I’ve had the pleasure to sample their latest self titled EP [via Safranin Sound] and I can say that I’m particularly impressed. Their sound resembles The Jesus and Mary Chain and Danish duo The Ravonettes,…
