Adele to perform new Bond theme: “It’s a showstopper”

Of course, you couldn’t pick someone more appropriate than Adele for the new James bond them; her brassy, jazzy voice, and unique stage persona will definitely bring something special to the table. So far, the song hasn’t even leaked, but Showbiz 411. The song is called “Let the Sky Fall” and her collaborator is indeed Paul Epworth, the man who co-wrote her big bit “Rolling in the Deep” and most of “21”. Obviously, this is…

Haley Reinhart- “Free”

This is probably one of the most outlandish things I’ll say for a very long time: I like an American Idol alum, plain and simple. In fact, I just may like her a lot. For those who didn’t tune in to the tenth season of the show, which features perennially unoriginal talent (but talent nonetheless), Haley Reinhart, a Chicago native with an edge, finished third to charming country teens Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery. On Idol, Ms. Reinhart left…

Album Review: Tom Waits, “Bad As Me”

Tom Waits’ newest album, Bad As Me, feels like a nice change from boring ol’ Rock & Roll.  In fact, it’s everything but!  As one goes from track to track, there’s soul, jazz, folk, some Spanish-sounding ballads, and more.  Tom Waits has always been a versatile artist, and he sure shows it on his newest offering. Take the opening track, “Chicago.”  It feels like the studio engineer hit “record” just a few seconds after the band…

5 Questions For The Tedeschi Trucks Band

Tedeschi Trucks Band - Revelator

Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi prove marriage and some great friends can put together an incredible album . Before the upcoming Boston show on August 17th at the Bank of America Pavilion, I asked Susan and Derek  a few questions and this is what they had to say about it: ZME: With the soon to be released “Revelator” album, you can hear the connection between…

Robin Trower Wants To Take Rock & Roll Back

Robin Trower

My calm Tuesday morning erupted with the pleasure of speaking with one of the most under rated guitarists of our times, Robin Trower.  At age 66 he has been nominated for the 2011 British Blues Awards, and with that he chuckled “I am not even sure I’m a blues player” and that “I think of myself as a Rock & Roll guitar player really, with a lot of Blues in there, which Rock & Roll…

Paws For Thought: Kelis As A Dog

Hurghhhh… Brrmmmm… I…. Uh… Throw me a bone here? What is this? A reaction to PETA hounding her? Have their con-dalmations sent her barking mad? Or is it just for shih-tzus and giggles? Fur what it’s worth, I’m sure there’s an interesting tail behind it. Whatever the story behind this pawtrait is (it’s a picture from her new album sleeve), when Kelis’ pup career comes to a close, she might find that weird furry cosplay…

Mashup: “Single Ladies” with “Andy Griffith Theme”

Yes, someone took the famous whistle-hook and added it to Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies.”  It actually makes the latter listenable. I know, it’s shocking.  The creator, Party Ben, is known for his, let’s say, interesting mashups.  He’s probably best known for throwing together “Teen Spirit” and “Harder Better” (which can be downloaded here) and his “Boulevard of Broken Songs.” You can get the mp3 of the “Single Ladies” mashup here.

Chris Cornell: ‘Scream’

Album name: Scream Artist name: Chris Cornell Genre: Rock/R’n’B Released: March 10 2009 Label: Interscope ZME Rating: 2/10 Website: chriscornell.com Let’s not beat around the bush here. What we have in Chris Cornell’s Scream is possibly the most misguided, counterintuitive, magnificently awful record Cornell, and producer Timbaland, will ever make. It’s suffers from both hideously outdated production – it sounds like what Cornell, in 1996, might have imagined r’n’b would sound like in 2009 -…

Video: Master Shortie – ‘Dance Like a White Boy’

I know. 99% of the time, music journalism isn’t very helpful. It’s, at best, pretentious attempts to appear to be gripping the zeitgeist, and at worst, thinly-veiled marketing schemes disguised as a semi-cogent thought process. But I feel that here at ZME, we can be something more. An agent of virtue – a voice that’s willing to champion the good and stamp on the bad. A veritable He-Man amongst Cringers. At the very least, we…

Will.I.Am writes new song in honor of Obama’s victory

Finally, it’s over! After months and months of politically blabbering, when where ever you turned you’d hear only Obama vs McCain vs Palin vs Clinton vs bla bla, talks. I was beginning to have it up to here, you know. I can barely express how much I’m glad this whole elections mambo jambo is over. As expected, everybody’s homeboy, Barack Obama, won easily over his republican counterpart today, open a new era of “Change.” Or…
