I’m getting more and more surprised by the stupidity shown by the contemporary record industry as each day passes, and Scottish electronica artist Calvin Harris is the latest to feel it’s fowl stench. Seems like Calvin tried to upload a video on YouTube of ”Ready For The Weekend – Original Mix,’ a song he 100% produced – his sole creation, you know, the works! – only to find it removed by the British Phonographic Industry…
Tool’s Lateralus covered in piano/vocals
I know this is as old as the internet, but I just came across it again, while I was into a Tool listening sessions on YouTube, after not seeing it for a very long time. The power, the passion and feeling with which this talented piano player, Adam Monroe, managed to turn Lateralus into a whole new song is simply incredible and definitely worth sharing with anyone, be it you’re seeing it for the first…
New Flaming Lips songs get leaked
A while ago we announced that everybody’s favorite Oklahomians, The Flaming Lips, will soon release an incredibly huge, both in size and awesomeness, double LP set. The 2xLP titled “Embryonic” will be the band’s eleventh full length studio release, the first in three years, after the band’s previous highly well received “At War with the Mystics,” and allegedly it will be the band’s most sonically adventurous material to date. Considering The Flaming Lips have some…
Download: The Dead Weather – ‘Treat Me Like Your Mother’ (Diplo remix)
I had loads of fun watching the new and intense Dead Weather video for “Treat Me Like Your Mother” released just last week, even though the track is kinda my least favorite off Horehound. Today, we’ve got something maybe even better – a Diplo remix of “Treat Me Like Your Mother.” I’ve always loved Diplo’s work. He has this uncanny talent of being able to reinvent songs, through his clever sample and beats arrangements -…
Download: Thom Yorke – ‘All For The Best’ (Miracle Legion cover)
“Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy” is simply a stunning compilation, however the circumstances that lead to its inception are no less than shattering. The tribute album is packed with various covers of some of Mark Mulcahy most brilliant song to support his work as he tends to his three years old twins, after their mother tragically died a year ago. If the name Mark Mulcahy seems a bit obscure, know he’s…
New “Weird Al” Yankovic video – ‘Skipper Dan’
Weird Al’s new Divya Srinivasan directed video for “Skipper Dan” doesn’t quite fall in his regular line of visuals or songs for that matter. I mean, the song isn’t parodying anyone particularly, apart from the evident hipster theater grad stereotype, and is actually kinda depressing. The lyrics are anyway, since the song’s really catchy. Check out the story of Dan, the once promising Broadway actor, now only a discontented Disneyland tour guide, right bellow.
Download: Dizzee Rascal – ‘Holiday’
It’s really difficult for me to mention Dizzee Rascal without thinking how he’s one of the few real dedicated people to music left in the contemporary scene. Music is his life’s driving force, it’s in his mind, his spirit and heart. Tons of respect for this, Dizzee, and for your incredible music. Yes, Dizzee Rascal is undoubtedly my favorite grime musician and one of the few modern day UK rappers who can actually stir up…
The 10 Most Influential Canadian Musicians
Today is Canada Day, the national holiday of North America’s other, more icy power state, and to mark the event I thought it would be fun to write a feature piece. Now, I’m not Canadian, nor I have any connection what so ever with the maple state, however some of my most beloved artists hail from there, so I guess this has to count for something, right? Bellow you can browse through a list of…
Download: Erykah Badu & The Roots – ‘I Wanna Be Where You Are’ (Michael Jackson cover)
The world is still left ravashed after Michael Jackson fell in death’s cold grip, however his timeless music will undoubtedly continue to live on for generation to come. He may have had his reputation and even life taken away, but no one can touch his legacy. Honoring his legacy is also Erykah Badu, who before her “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” Friday night performance ralied up Jimmy’s house band The Roots back stage and played…
Jason Isbell: Whelan’s, Dublin (20/6/09)
Clichés are basically the exact opposite of a box of chocolates: you always know what you’re gonna get next. The key to making clichés work in songwriting is to couch the clichés in a bunch of other interesting stuff so that they’re not all that important to the song, in the end. This is a lesson I learned last night, watching Jason Isbell give a fantastic performance upstairs in Whelan’s. Supporting act for the night…
