…but don’t get your hopes too high just yet. Over the last few years, the White Stripes frontman, Jack White, one of the most influential frontmen/guitarist of the past decade, has surprinsingly steadily shifted his attention to side projects. In 2008 he released “Consolers of the Lonely” with long time collaborators The Raconteurs, after which he continued in the following year of 2009 with the heavy riff infused “Horehound” with the newly formed The Dead…
A7X’s The Rev dead at 28
Avenged Sevenfold’s drummer, Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, was found dead at age 28 at his home in Huntington Beach, California, on Monday. He supposedly died of natural causes, though his death was investigated by the coroner’s office and ruled “inconclusive.” Avenged Sevenfold is rather divisive in the metal community, mainly for its early “metalcore” output. Honestly, the band got better as they went on, especially when M. Shadows stopped screaming. It was pretty damned irritating….
David Byrne, Fatboy Slim ‘Here Lies Love’ boxset slated for February release
Quite the pleasant surprise to wind up in our inbox today, when a press release surfaced detailing the release of David Byrne/Fatboy Slim’s upcoming concept album, “Here Lies Love”, about the life of about the life of the former First Lady of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos and her relationship with a servant from her childhood (Estrella Cumpas). It’s a massive album, one long in the making, primarily fueled by the forming Talking Head’s “passion for…
Gorillaz’s new album Plastic Beach to feature Mos Def, Snoop Dogg, Lou Reed and more
In a recent interview with The Guardian, British music icon Damon Albarn revealed some very interesting details concerning the long awaited Gorillaz follow-up to the incredible 2005 “Demon Days.” Apparently, “the LP is nearly finished,” as Damon put it, and will go by the name of “Plastic Beach” (the title came to him after seeing the plastic bottle-littered beach in front of his home in Devon). He goes on to add that the new album…
Belle & Sebastian new album on the horizon [?]
Since Belle & Sebastian released their last glorious album, “The Life Pursuit”, in 2006, the band has not only stopped releasing any new music, but they haven’t even hinted of plans of a new album whatsoever. When Stuart Murdoch, the band’s lead creative force behind the band, started working on his God Help the Girl project any plans for the band to make any new albums had been scrapped, until today that is when the…
Massive Attack reveals new album details
It took them a while, seven years to be more exact, but the trip-hop pioneering duo have finally come through and recently announced the follow-up to the somewhat disappointing 2003 “100th Window.” Massive Attack’s new album is titled “Heligoland” (named after the german Archipelago of Heligoland), and features guest vocals by Damon Albarn, TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe, Elbow’s Guy Garvey, Martina Topley-Bird, Hope Sandoval, and Horace Andy. The tracklist is only ten songs…
Megadeth and Slayer officially announce the 2010 American Carnage Tour
The Clash of the Titans 1991 tour was one of the most epic and spectacular series of metal gigs to ever have graced the planet, basically making various venues in the US and Europe the very center of the scene for a day. Now, Megadeth and Slayer are set to embark on a tour of almost equal proportions in 2010, called the American Carnage Tour. They even brought on Testament as openers to re-create the…
New Hot Chip album and tour in 2010
Ah, finally! I’ve been nervously waiting for a follow-up to Made In The Dark, which is quite the pop gem, for ages now, and I can only rejoice at the news that Hot Chip’s new album, titled “One Life Stand”, will get released at the beginning of 2010. Here’s what I’ve read about the record in a press release I’ve just received: One Life Stand sees a proliferation of influences as diverse as the burgeoning…
Sufjan Stevens’ 50 states project is ‘such a joke’
Sufjan Stevens once had a plan so ambitious, so preposterous, that it seemed like one of those ‘just crazy enough to work’ things – write a concept album about each of the 50 states. He started off with the midwest when he released the lush “Michigan” in 2003, before carrying on with the magnificent 2005 “Illinois”, which, among other gems in the tracklist, features “Chicago”, Sufjan’s best song to date by far! Something happen afterwards,…
Liars announce new album via viral website [?]
Recently, the experimental three piece band Liars have posted a cryptic post on their MySpace blog, containing a new art work (posted above) and few links directing fans to thesisterworld.com. So far, the website only contains three very weird videos depicting various nature scenes, sounds included. What do they mean? Beats me if I know, but it sure does look like something the Liars would’ve cooked up. One thing’s for certain, though – the whole…
