New Iron & Wine album – Kiss Each Other Clean

It’s been almost three years since we’ve heard new material from Sam Beam’s alt-folk project, Iron & Wine, but according to a recent press release that found its way to our inbox, a new album is on the horizon. Slated for a 2011 release, the follow-up to 2007’s extraordinarily well received “The Shepard’s Dog” will be titled Kiss Each Other Clean, with release efforts being handled by the band’s new label Warner Bros. Records in…

Gene Simmons on P2P: “sue every fresh-faced, freckle-faced college kid…”

Sue first and ask questions later seems to be Gene Simmons, the legendary Kiss bassist and frontman, device in handling his business. At the recent MIPCOM convention in Cannes, France, Simmons was invited as a keynote speaker to speak about “branding” and how he managed to transfer KISS into a million dollar business, expanding the brand everywhere from guitars, to comic books, to condoms. “Make sure your brand is protected,” Said Simmons. “Make sure there…

New Supergroup: The Damned Things

In case you haven’t heard yet, members of Anthrax, Every Time I Die and Fall Out Boy have come together to form The Damned Things. ETID’s Keith Buckley is joined by FOB’s Joe Trohan and Andy Hurley and Anthrax’s Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano. With this line-up, you can somewhat accurately guess what the band sounds like: a mix of pop-punk and southern-fried metallic hardcore sprinkled with some nu-metal thrash. First single “We’ve Got A…

AOL Radio Blog names “100 Worst Songs Ever”

So AOL has an internet radio station. And that station has a blog. Who knew? Or cared? Anyhow, they have recently published a list of the all-time 100 worst songs in popular music with a blurb-style explanation for each selection – that is, a dozen words per selection. While the vast, vast majority of the songs deserve to be here, I do have a few gripes about a handful of choices. Before I get to that,…

Elbow’s Guy Garvey condemns illegal downloaders to hell

In a recent talk with BBC Radio 1’s Newsbeat, Elbow frontman Guy Garvey lashed out on people who can afford to buy music, but choose to rip it, saying they’re “going to hell” for it. “If you genuinely can’t afford music then of course you’re going to rip it. If you can afford it and you don’t pay for it then you’re going to hell and you’ve got your own room. Especially when it’s a…

Sacha Baron Cohen to star as Freddie Mercury in upcoming biopic

One can see the resemblance, but is Cohen capable to fill Freddie Mercury's immense shoes? I'm skeptical.

“Hello it is me, Freddy Mercury… I joking, he die of AIDS,” said Cohen wearing a muscle vest as he made his apparearance at the MTV Europe awards which he presented. Ironically or not, Sacha Baron Cohen, a comedian most known for inventing timeless characters such as the flaming rapper Ali G, the gay…

Download Trent Reznor’s 5 track sampler for The Social Network soundtrack

A few weeks ago I told you all about this wacky new cinematographic project called The Social Network which is more or less a cross between a Mark Zuckerberg’s biopic and a thriller/horror/action/drama/comedy/whatchumacallit blockbuster movie.  Now, the movie may seem kinda … for lack of a better term stupid, but when a man like Trent Reznor steps up and offers his musical talents for the movie’s score, then I guess more than just an eyebrow…

New PJ Harvey album in February

Mick Harvey, a Nick Cave long time collaborator (former Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds/Birthday Party member), and of apparent no relation to the headliner of this particular blog post, recently stated at the end of last month on his myspace that “there will be extensive touring commitments with my dear friend Polly (PJ) after the release of her new album in February 2011.” He goes on to say: “We recorded her album back in…

A Perfect Circle on reunion tour!

The band’s self imposed hiatus has finally come to an end proving the rumors scattered at the beginning of the summer that had A Perfect Circle back together ‘very soon’, as well as a new album. The new album part, although a sweet dream, is pretty unlikely to happen, but the reunion part is very much a reality, since it has been officially announced just recently that Maynard and Howardel will reboot the APC project…

Foxy Music: Ham Sandwich Announce White Fox

October: the month that previously gave us Hallowe’en, Thom Yorke, and Jean Claude Van Damme. But none of those will matter this year, because 2010 is the year October gives us Ham Sandwich’s new album. Hurrah! Eat that, you Belgian troglodyte. So! White Fox, for that is the album’s name, is due out on October 1st. Which is… (consults calendar)…. less than a month away! In fact, as of tomorrow, it’s precisely three weeks away….
