Last night, every concrete beam in the massive Madison Square Garden shook as Prince brought his “Welcome 2 America” show to the city of New York, the last leg of his tour. He played every hit marvelously, proving although he’s a megalomaniac, a lunatic or one big asshole, in short, that he’s still the purple guitar god. What came as a total surprise to everybody however was when Cee-Lo Green took the stage next to…
Sasquatch Festival 2011 lineup announced
The lineup for this year’s Sasquatch Festival was announced just recently by Seattle’s radio station 107.7 The End (check out the link, they’re also throwing down a contest where you can win some free passes). As I was skimming through the poster, which is absolutely adorable by the way, I couldn’t help shake that feeling of “crap, this fest sounds too good to be true.” The Foos, Death Cab, Wilco, Flaming Lips, Bright Eyes, Chromeo…

The “Big Four” Tour coming to United States…finally [update: 1/25/11]
The “Big Four” of of the ’80s thrash metal movement – ya know: Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax – is finally touring together in America…at some point. This, of course, comes after they toured Europe last year and put out a concert DVD from the Bulgaria show. All we know so far is that it’s happening. Apparently, tour dates are to be announced sometime…later. Anyhow, I bring this up because I have wonder why this…
Trent Reznor wins Golden Globe for Social Netowork soundtrack
At the beginning of last year’s summer I showed myself skeptic with respect to a movie solely based on facebook and its founders, but showed a lot of interest in its soundtrack penned by Reznor and Atticus Ross. In the meantime, I saw the Social Network, I’ve sampled the soundtrack and I have to admit they’re both up par. Not that it holds any relevance, but the critics are also all over the movie, gaining…
So Kanye put a new single out this week
To be exact, it was two days ago (Tuesday, January 11) and it’s called “H.A.M.” The single is taken from the forthcoming album he made with Jay-Z called Watch The Throne, due out sometime in March. Oh, and he (originally) released it on the official Facebook page for the album. I kid you not. In order to hear it (or, rather, have heard it), you have to like the page. It’s worth your time, of…
Kings of Leon annoyed with themselves
The story of Kings of Leon is remarkable; the guys did good music for a lot of time, became superhits, and entered 2010 as absolute superstars. But the southeners finished the year with a totally different mood. Their country-tinged fifth album, “Come Around Sundown” failed to please both fans and critics, and as it often happens, it backfired against them. Group’s guitarist Matthew Followill tells Spinner that he absolutely understands what fans and critics think,…
The Damned Things: Full album stream
So that supergroup I raved about a while back has their entire album, Ironiclast, available for streaming over at Ultimate Guitar’s website. Upon first listen, it’s a lot of fun. It’s (really) old school metallic hard rock. Nothing too complex: great riffs, anthemic choruses, wily solos – you get the idea. There really aren’t any surprises here, which is actually a good thing. You know exactly what the entire album is no matter which single…
24 Hours of hardcore punk, brought to you by Steven Blush
The guy behind American Hardcore: A Tribal History, a book detailing the history of hardcore punk that later spawned a film, has uploaded 24 hours of hardcore punk (911 songs). The set contains all the logical inclusions: D.R.I., Black Flag, Bad Religion, NOFX, and Scream (the band Dave Grohl was in before Nirvana). You can stream any of the 911 songs or download them if you like. Which is what makes this compilation slightly dubious….

The long-fueled rumors are true: SOAD are back as of next year. An official-official statement from the band’s website reads: Hello All, We are excited to announce that System will be playing some dates together in 2011. We also want to thank you for your loyalty and support, not only to System Of A Down, but to all of our solo efforts as well. We have no master plan of sorts – we are playing…
