Pearl Jam, Monsters of Folk and Avett Brothers Halloween covers

Partying and ridiculously awesome music (and a LOT of alcohol) can make Halloween a tolerable experience, in an atmosphere dominated by lame costumes and pathetic pranks. This weekend, some lucky concert goers were met with a few surprise appearances by their favorite bands in some peculiar formats. At The Ryman, my favorite bluegrass ensemble played the them song of the cult classic ¡Three Amigos!, with the necessary props to go with it too – dressed…

The Week in Music: #43

Al is back with another fabulous entry to his weekly Radio Bile column. This time he tackles the subject of bad music…which we sometimes buy. U2’s “Spiderman Musical” has been delayed. The new Strokes album is packed with disagreement. Check out the 50 best album covers of the 2000s compiled by Gigwise. Andrew Lloyd Webber has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Pop quiz with The Gossip’s Beth Ditto. I’ve missed CMJ again this year, a…

CONTEST: U2’s The Unforgettable Fire vinyl giveaway

“The Unforgettable Fire” is, questionably or not, the first U2 album that managed to finally deliver a cohesive and uninfluenced sound. Upon it’s release in 1985, it topped every chart and solidified the band’s position as the number one rock act of the moment. It’s no wonder that for it’s 25th anniversary, The Unforgettable Fire went through a royal remastering, conducted by The Edge himself. Four physical editions of the album will be available, two…

Trailer for the new John Lennon biopic released

“Nowhere Boy” is the most recent movie in the wave of deceased artist biopics that have been produced in the past few years – this time it’s all about John Lennon. This isn’t  a movie that goes behind the curtains of his Beatles days, however. Instead, it’s a chronicle of childhood and troubled teenaged years that eventually shaped him into one of the world’s greatest songwriters to ever have lived. The movie sounds very interesting,…

New Age video: ‘Loosing Feeling’

Now, who would’ve thought that New Age are actually …mhh, weremice? Oh, and unlike the stereotype of werewolves on a moon light rampage you’ve encountered in books and movies so far, the band shed their furry skin and morph on nights packed with dusk-till-dawn lo-fi parties. At least, this is how New Age have been portrayed in their latest video for “Loosing Feeling”, off their latest EP of the same title. Cheese? Please! BONUS: [MP3] …

The latest and worst Foo Fighters song to date

Don’t get me wrong here, I love the Foo Fighters, I really do. “The Colour and the Shape” is one of my all time favorite albums, and I’m a huge fan of Grohl’s work, be it in the kit with Nirvana, QOTSA and Them Crooked Vultures or playing frontman in the FF, but recently it’s like the band is simply making fun of itself, a shadow of its former glorious rocking self. I can perfectly…

New Ape School video: ‘Wail to God’

I’m really failing, at the moment, trying to understand Anthony Schepperd’s directorial vision in Ape School’s latest video for “Wail To God.” I’m certain of one thing, though: it’s awesome! I mean, how can you go wrong when you mix in apes, violence, robots and MOUNTAINS OF BOOBS all together? You can’t, I tell you. Watch St. Vincent perform ‘Marrow’ @ ACL

Looking back at 2009, with only a few couple of weeks left in the year, I can now safely say it was a great year for music, and one of the first albums to come to mind justifying just this would be St. Vincent’s “Actor.” It’s serene and crazy, soft and loud, and just about everything in between, allowing for an eclectic experience that should suit almost anyone with an open mind. All of these…

Stone Temple Pilots set to release a new album and tour in 2010

They’ve had their fair share of difficulties, to say the least that is, but according to the band’s frontman, Scott Weiland, Stone Temple Pilots will be touring a great deal in the following year, to complete an upcoming new album. Apparently, the tour will stretch across the whole year, with short breaks in between. Most probably the first leg of the tour will run for a short period of time, before breaking into the post-album…
