New Music Monday: January 11

I haven’t published a New Music Monday feature for almost two months now, but this week’s a good a time as any to revive it. First up is Vampire Weekend’s highly anticipated sophomore release “Contra,” which also got featured on our 15 Most Anticipated Releases of 2010 list. It has already gathered unanimous stellar reviews and sells like hot donuts down at iTunes, but your opinion shouldn’t be influenced by hype or whatnot, so head…

Jack White is considering a solo album

…but don’t get your hopes too high just yet. Over the last few years, the White Stripes frontman, Jack White, one of the most influential frontmen/guitarist of the past decade, has surprinsingly steadily shifted his attention to side projects. In 2008 he released “Consolers of the Lonely” with long time collaborators The Raconteurs, after which he continued in the following year of 2009 with the heavy riff infused “Horehound” with the newly formed The Dead…

New Animal Collective video: ‘Brothersport’

It took a year after Merriweather Post Pavilion’s release for my favorite track off the album “Brothersport” to finally get a video. When I first sampled the album I was certain this feel good jam will get its video released around the booming summer, where it’s best suited, but I guess I can’t complain. Later is better than never, even though the winter chilly vibe doesn’t suit the song at all. Check out the very…

In a recent interview with The Guardian, British music icon Damon Albarn revealed some very interesting details concerning the long awaited Gorillaz follow-up to the incredible 2005 “Demon Days.” Apparently, “the LP is nearly finished,” as Damon put it, and will go by the name of “Plastic Beach” (the title came to him after seeing the plastic bottle-littered beach in front of his home in Devon). Grizzly Bear just released this very soulful remix of The Notwist’s “Boneless”, off the later’s 2008 highly praised “The Devil, You + Me.” If you’ve been following indie blogs for the last couple of years, you might remember another Boneless remix, which has since become quite famous , namely Panda Bear’s very dramatic take on the song. Actually Panda Bear’s remix, rehashed to such an extent that it became a whole new track, was featured…

[VIDEO] Yeasayer – ‘Ambling Alp’

At the beginning of the month, I was simply psyched by Yeasayer’s new song “Ambling Alp”, off the band’s upcoming 2010 new album “Odd Blood.” Back then I said “The song, as a whole, makes for an incredible uplifting experience, packed with memerising electro beats and a bright pulsating rhythm. So far, it seems a lot more sharper, defined and focused than anything on their debut, which can only make me wonder what gems I…
