2010 Sasquatch lineup announced

On this year’s Memorial Day weekend (29-31 May) all attention will be shifted towards the little town of Gorge, Washington where the massive Sasquatch 2010 Festival is set to unfold. A complete and final press release is yet to have been released, but even so the line-up is more than impressive. The headlining acts for the fest are newly reformed Pavement, joined by My Morning Jacket and Massive Attack who all share top bunks for…

New Music Monday: 15 February

Every year at the SXSW fest, out of the slew of bands flocking in from all over the country, you can be sure there will be one or two acts that will definitely stand out as somewhere up there in the bands to watch of the respective year. For 2009 the crowd, and critics *cough, clear favorite were the Silver Lake five-piece Local Natives who will finally release their debut record “Gorilla Manor” this week….

New Wolfmother video: ‘White Feather’

Wolfmother just recently premiered the video for their smashing heavy-funky groove single “White Feather”. Very simple and straight forward, the video basically features the band jamming crunchy riffs like there’s no tomorrow on a cross-fading dawning lighting. Heavy, heavy stuff! White Feather is off Wolfmother’s latest studio effort “Cosmic Egg” out now.

Skye Edwards reforms with Morcheeba

Since singer Skye Edwards left Morcheeba back in 2003, the trip-top pioneering vibe that the group spread across their catalog seemed to have faded as new material followed. The charismatic vocalist was truly a driving force that perfectly synched with the Godfrey brothers’ talented arrangements. Frankly, I can’t imagine Morcheeba without Skye. Today, however, as if prayers have been answered, Skye Edwards announced via her myspace that she has rejoined the Godfrey brothers and will…

112.000 people apply for RATM’s free London concert

Last year’s UK Christmas number one single was surprisingly topped by Rage Against The Machine’s 1992 anthem against oppression “Killing in the Name”, as a result of the valiant effort put down by the UK populace to break the X-Factor streak of countless insipid years. Naturally, the band totally appreciated this and have decided to book a gig at London’s Finsbury Park where RATM is set to perform live absolutely free of charge. All that…

New Portugal. The Man album due in March

Last year’s “The Satanic Satanist” by the Alaskian experimentalists Portugal. The Man delivered some of the best material I’ve had the chance to listen all year round. Now, barely a year after their previous effort, the band is set to release a follow-up titled “American Ghetto” on March 2nd. Captioned above is the official art work for the album which I guess portrays the father-son relationship in an American ghetoo – that or the wacky…

Download: The Very Best – ‘Ambling Alp’ (Yeasyer overdub)

Like in the case of M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes” and “Boyz” orVampire Weekend’s “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa”, the smashing simple of the year’s first quarter, Yeasayer’s “Ambling Alp”,  has been turned 180 degrees by The Very Best who left their distinct electro-funk imprint on it. The original vocals have been scrapped altogether and replaced by Esau Mwamwaya’s indescifrable lyrics, but which still retain the song’s jovial, up-beat spirit. Granted, it’s a wonderful reinterpretation that will definitely…

Download: Little Girls – ’10 Mile Stereo’ (Beach House cover)

Just found out that Toronto post-punk four piece Little Girls tackled and covered “10 Mile Stereo”, one of the gems off Beach House’s recent new phantasmagoric new album “Teen Dream”. The song is perfectly layered and faithfully covered, despite being dazed with Little Girls’ signature lo-fi/haunting sound, which makes 10 Mile Stereo feel like an even eerier experience. [MP3] Little Girls – ’10 Mile Stereo’ (Beach House cover) In other related news, Little Girls will…
