Someone with immense patience and attention to detail uploaded the above YouTube clip, in which Inception’s by now famous shattering brass intro is put face to face with a synchronized version of Edith Piaf’s “Je Ne Regrette Rien” in the same tempo. The similarities are remarkable and, frankly, a bit disturbingly odd. I’m not sure if Hans Zimmer, the famous compositor put in charge of SciFi blockbuster soundtrack, was in any way inspired by Edith’s…
Download: Cut Copy – ‘Where I’m Going’
I know I’m a bit late on the bandwagon with this one, but better late than never. I’ve been meaning to post Cut Copy’s latest new song off the Aussies’ upcoming new album for a week now, since it got released as a free digital download at the band’s website, alas forgetfulness bested me. For those of you who’ve yet to listen to this enchanting song, point your eager clicks to the download link below…
[VIDEO] Caribou – ‘Sun’
Caribou’s latest full length “Swim”, released this April, is somewhere in my top 10 fav of the year so far. If you’re not that well impressed, it’s enough to sample Daniel Snaith’s Odessa or the techno infused, feel good track “Sun”, whose music video premiered earlier. While sub par compared with the quality of the song itself, the Simon Owens directed video however does a pretty good job in conveying the ecstatic nature of Sun….
Mondo Generator preps new album release/tours
Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri! Now that was a sight back in the ol’ Queens of the Stone Age glory days, not to mention the Kyuss era, when these two giants of rock would simply plummet pure riffage across the stage and audience. In somewhat antagonistic positions, Oliveri and Homme were like brothers until unfortunate circumstances, well to known and deplorable to mention here, broke the two apart. QOTSA survived under Homme’s solitary rule, not…
Download: Deerhunter – Revival 7″
Off the band’s upcoming highly anticipated new album, “Halcyon Digest”, Deerhunter’s new 7″ single “Revival” is available as of today for free download on the album’s mini-site – enter password tapereel. A few weeks ago fans were instructed to print and paste up posters with the new album in the home towns, and in return they’d be rewarded with access to the new single, but apparently anyone can do it. Besides the the single title…
[VIDEO] Jack White and Dave Grohl perform at Paul McCartney tribute (live @ White House)
The White House was host last month to a great selection of fine musicians like Jack White, Elvis Costello, Stevie Wonder, Jerry Seinfeld, Emmylou Harris, all of which performed as a tribute to Paul McCartney. Although it’s been a while since this happened it’s only been until today that video footage of the event has finally surfaced. Check out some incredible performances by Jack White and Dave Grohl performing “Mother Nature’s Son” and “My Michelle”,…
[Hot Streaming] Listen to snippets of the new Arcade Fire album – ‘Suburbs’
Arcade Fire’s third full length studio album, “Suburbs”, is just a few weeks away from its release, as such we’ve been granted to sample the whole album in snippets, 30 seconds for each of the 16 tracks to be more exact. You can stream the Suburbs preview on the player right below, while an awesome collage of the eight Suburbs covers can be found at the Arcade Fire website. (I’m not very sure which of…
[VIDEO] Cinematic Orchestra – Lilac Wine (sponsored by Dr. Martens)
Although written by the prolific James Shelton in the 1950’s, “Lilac Wine” was catapulted to modern day classic status not before 1994 when Jeff Buckley covered it, capturing all its splendor. Now, it’s a bit hard to tell if the Cinematic Orchestra version is a Jeff Buckley (likely) or a James Shelton cover, but even though the performance might not be stellar, the video is. Developed by one of my favorite creative agencies, Blind, this…
Download: Fol Chen – ‘In Ruins’ (the EP)
Highland Park sextet Fol Chen (yeah, the raccoon dudes from SXSW) have been kind enough to fix everybody up with a free remix EP for “In Ruins”, the feature track off the band’s new record “Part II: The New December” out this month. The EP features remixes from Baths, Keepaway, Kárin Tatoyan and Julian Wass. The Baths remix is one to note, especially. DOWNLOAD the entire In Ruins remix EP. Fol Chen’s new album Part…
Vampire Weekend sued by Contra cover girl
Seems like Vampire Weekend’s rise to mainstream popularity has brought with it not only MTV coverage and a stuffy bank account, but also the afferent law suits that go with them. Remember the really cool vintage cover art for the band’s debut album featuring a cute blond girl? Well, it seems the respective model Kirsten Kennis is suing the band and the photographer, Tod Brody, who allegedly illegally licensed the above photo, taken in 1984….
